BEAUTY, BUILT IN LAYERS

The details beneath
the design.

Surface-X is a finish system. Sound substrates, water management, movement detailing, and protective coatings belong in the specification from the start.

Schematic only. Layer thicknesses are exaggerated. Confirm the approved assembly for the substrate and exposure.

DESIGN PARAMETERS

⅛″

Typical overlay

Approximately 3 mm of finish; preparation and leveling can increase total build-up.

60 mil

Submerged membrane

Current pool guidance calls for three coats at approximately 20 mil per coat.

7+ days

Before filling

Minimum submerged membrane cure; conditions and retained moisture can extend it.

PLAN THE RIGHT ASSEMBLY

What can we resurface?

MOUNTAIN WEST REALITIES

Sun. Snow.
And the details between.

UV-stable color is one part of an exterior specification. Drainage, snowmelt, substrate movement, exposure, and finish traction also shape the assembly.

Confirm job-specific freeze-thaw suitability and current technical guidance. A coating cannot repair structural movement or eliminate designed expansion joints.

Positive slope → drainageMembrane turn-up + protected termination

Coordinate wall transitions, drains, thresholds, and penetrations. Finished color is never a substitute for drainage.

PROJECT SEQUENCE

From assessment to the final seal.

01

Inspect & specify

Review substrate, use, exposure, movement, and moisture.

02

Prepare & repair

Remove weak material and contaminants; establish a sound base.

03

Detail & protect

Reinforce transitions and install specified waterproofing.

04

Finish & cure

Apply approved color, texture, and protection; respect cure windows.

A few important distinctions.

Does “seamless” mean every joint disappears?

No. Preserve and detail required movement joints. The finish removes the visual rhythm of grout in suitable areas but does not remove the need for movement accommodation.

Can a broken pool coping or shell simply be coated?

Weak coping, loose material, structural cracks, and failed bond beams must be repaired before coating. Waterproofing does not restore structural capacity.

Is every finish right for a wet pool deck?

No. Specify texture, sealer, and any approved traction treatment for the complete assembly; verify wet-use suitability. Polished appearance alone does not establish slip resistance.

How do I care for the surface?

Use compatible neutral-pH cleaning products, avoid abrasive cleaning, and review the specified sealer maintenance cycle. Pool membrane finishes also require balanced water chemistry and careful chemical dosing.
